The beaches
in Cahuita offer a variety of diversions. There is a
stony beach that does not really invite you to go swimming,
but during a nice little stroll around, you can discover
many interesting things. The silver-black beach – about
14 kilometers long – is amazingly beautiful and swimming
there is just great fun! Besides that, this beach is
only 3 minutes away from our resort. The white beach
is about one kilometer away and you can find it
right at the entrance of the “Cahuita National Park”.
This beach honors the Caribbean! The coral reef in front
is simply a paradise for snorkeling fans and scuba divers.

The little
village of Cahuita had quite a bad reputation some years
ago. But today, the undesirable activities moved elsewhere
and now Cahuita is a sleepy, cozy place with a true
Caribbean feeling. A colorful blend of Costa Rica and
Jamaica, it typifies the easygoing mood of both countries.
In the village you’ll find souvenir shops, supermarkets,
restaurants and bars. Anyone looking for parties and
loud entertainment is not really in the right village,
but those who want to relax and seek out a little rest
couldn’t find a better place to be.

The “Cahuita
National Park” – with a size of 1,068 hectares (4,322
acres) and a marine area of 22,400 hectares (9,000 acres)
– was founded in 1970 and is the second oldest national
park in Costa Rica. The dreamily agreeable walk through
the park is about 7 kilometers long and you need about
2 hours from the entrance to Puerto Vargas. From there
you can take the bus back to Cahuita, if you like. The
walk in the park is quite an easy one, with no problematic
stretches. Even though it mostly hugs the coastline,
the path takes you through the forest, so it’s shady
and cool. On the white beaches alongside you’ll find
all kinds of hidden places waiting to be discovered.
There are monkeys (capuchins and howlers), sloths, many
colorful birds, butterflies, iguanas, crabs and many
more animals to see. Also the vegetation offers a variety
of changes and delights the eye with a range of beautiful
flowers and impressively tall jungle trees.
